Transconjunctival blepharoplasty vs Traditional blepharoplasty

March 17, 2024

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that presents two common approaches: transconjunctival blepharoplasty and traditional blepharoplasty. The main difference between the two techniques lies in the location of the incisions.

In traditional blepharoplasty, the incisions are made in the natural creases of the eyelids, allowing access to excess skin and fat. In contrast, transconjunctival blepharoplasty involves internal incisions, through the conjunctiva, which leave no external marks.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is recognized for its ability to minimize visible scars, as it does not involve external cuts. This technique is especially indicated for patients who seek improvements in the lower eye area without worrying about external scars. On the other hand, traditional blepharoplasty may be preferable in cases where both upper and lower eyelids need to be addressed, allowing for a more comprehensive approach.
